Ovako Imatra will launch an apprenticeship training program in January 2024

The application period for the apprenticeship training is ongoing, and ends on October 22, 2023. The training program offers 20 starting positions, with 15 placements in production tasks and 5 in mechanical maintenance. The studies will commence on January 15, 2024. The aim of the training is to prepare for future recruitment needs.

The apprenticeship training program leads to a vocational qualification in process industry with a specialization in the metallurgical processing industry. The total scope of the qualification is 150 competence points (CP).

The program will cover the processes and individual process stages of the metal industry, from raw materials to end products. It also includes quality control, safety and environmental issues, as well as the principles related to business economics, operating environment, and customer relationships.

For those focusing on maintenance, there is a 30 CP module that covers the structures and operating principles of process equipment, along with learning how to perform installation, repair, and maintenance work.

The vocational studies are studied at the workplace and supplemented by theoretical studies at an educational institution of the field.

The estimated duration of the training is approximately 1.5 to 2 years, depending on the student's previous education and work experience. The prerequisite for production positions is a secondary-level vocational qualification, while students focusing on mechanical maintenance are required to have a secondary-level qualification in the field of technology.

An apprenticeship is a fixed-term employment contract between an employer and a student: individuals selected for the apprenticeship training will work at Ovako Imatra in various production and maintenance roles during their studies. Compensation and working hours will be in accordance with the Technology Industry collective agreement. The recruitment for the apprenticeship training will be carried out in cooperation with Staffpoint.
